10 Best of Hilton Head Island,South Carolina
Hilton Head Island is a wonderful place to visit and experience
during the Spring and Summer months.
1.Ride a bike around the island and wave to everyone you meet.
Not only will that help you loose the extra pounds gained from eating those delicious fried green tomatoes but make everyone jealous ,you are having such a marvelous time .
2.Visit the southern side of the island , known to the locals as 'the big toe',and check out the 'Salty Dog Cafe'
http://www.saltydog.com/
Their food is sea food based and that tear jerking story involving the black dog and a rescue at sea is delightful .
3.Have lunch at the Bamboo Hut in Coligny Circle, the south pacific decor as well as the food are wonderful.
http://www.bigbamboocafe.com/
Your kids should find it fascinating to drink their sodas out of recycled jam jars. Then hop over to Marley's for dinner, featuring Caribbean food and a great ice cream parlor right next door for those who require bribery to complete the tedious task of eating their dinner.
4.Take an incredible adventure filled Eco tour around the island ,in a WWII zodiac boat that oddly enough sails smoother than many larger ships.
http://commanderzodiac.com/
You'll see groups of playful young dolphin calves and their moms swimming together,to ensure their safety against .the territorial adult males who occasionally try to hurt the babies and hungry sharks.Do catch a glimpse of Dufuskie Island where no cars are allowed and most roads unpaved, can anyone spell 'unspoiled paradise'?
5.Go back in time to the sixties, when father knew best and Jeannie was a household name, and shop at the old fashioned 'Pigly Wiggly' grocery store at Coligny Square.
http://www.thepig.net/
.The store is a little small, and slightly crowded but for those seeking 'atmosphere ' this is the 'it' spot.
6.Wonder into Disney's totally non disneyesque hotel located in the middle of the island.
http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/resorts/rentalResortLanding
The only 'character' there is their adorable mascot dog who looks nothing like Pluto, but is the inhabitant of a fancy dog house next to the reception area...
7. Kayaking in the swamps filled with alligators and mosquitoes is obviously not for the faint of hearts ,but remember that collecting sand dollar shellson the beach can be lots of fun too ,and a great sensory adventure.

8. For a less crowded rustic feel beach try the one at Harbor Town Sea Pines .
Make note that most areas have life guards which provides extra peace of mind for parents,as well as showers, restrooms and chaise lounge /umbrella combo rentals.

9.Climb the old lighthouse stairs to the top and see the picture
perfect sunset view before joining other parents under the old
oak tree to sing along long time favorites with Gregg,an island
legend.

Do remember to bring insect repellent unless you wish to become
the mosquitoes' preferred plat du jour!
10.Stop by Hudson's and engage in an 'all you can eat' hush puppies competition.
http://www.hudsonsonthedocks.com/
Those pups are highly addictive and all restaurant servers feel
obligated to continuously replenish the table's empty baskets. If you
can still handle more food try their unbelievable 'Neptune Platter',a
long time customer favorite.
